Everyone “WINS” at Becker Public Schools

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Primary School Principal Dale Christensen.)

The Becker School District is firmly committed to ensuring all students are reading successfully by the time they leave elementary school.

Becker Primary and Intermediate schools utilize an academic support model designed to provide individualized learning assistance on a daily basis. Each classroom has “What I Need” or “WIN” time for 30 minutes each day. Students’ needs vary greatly and they are assessed in reading several times throughout the year.  These assessments determine specific goals for each student.

WIN time focuses on the needs of each student to help them meet their academic goals. During this daily time there are many people working together to effectively support all students.  Reading Intervention teachers, Minnesota Reading Corps. members, Special Education teachers, and classroom teachers provide targeted practice to small groups of students, so each student is receiving what they need to improve as readers.

WIN helps Becker Public Schools achieve its mission to develop self-directed learners to thrive in a changing global community.

WIN time is an opportunity for all students to have targeted instruction and it helps our students be their Bulldog best!
