Bettina Potter of the Becker Pebble Creek Women’s Club took advantage of the open forum during Tuesday’s city council meeting to describe an event the PCWC is sponsoring to help feed and support the area’s children.
Potter said the PCWC will be hosting a fundraiser July 28 at Pebble Creek featuring a nine-hole women’s golf scramble set to start at 5:15 p.m. The fundraising event is open to the public from 4-9 p.m. and masseuses from Great River Spine & Sport will be on hand to relieve aches and pains for a small donation.
Also on the agenda for the event is a putting contest, a dinner/awards banquet, a silent auction, prize raffles and interactive games as well as a boutique featuring ladies’ clothing, shoes, bags jewelry and other accessories.
Potter said the event is to benefit the Becker Backpack Buddies program that provides school aged children with nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals, for weekends and holidays. The program supports 209+ children across all platforms from pre-school through high school in the Becker area.
Every Friday during the school year, a shoebox size bag of kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods are sent home with students in need. These bags are distributed by the school counselors and administrators.
The program is run totally off donations; 100% of all financial contributions made to the Backpack Buddies program are used to obtain food.
Last year, more than 75 ladies participated in the event which raised a whopping $4,400 for the Becker Backpack Buddies program. They hope to surpass that total this year.
“The Pebble Creek Women’s Club would like to extend an invitation to the mayor, council members, city staff and all others in the community to come to our guest day event July 28,” said Potter.
“Regardless of your political stance on the golf course, we are talking about students that need nourishment in order to retain what our wonderful teachers present on a daily basis. Let’s get together for the greater good and show our support for the entire community by attending our event.”
Potter said the golfing community is an extremely supportive one as they have received donations of golf rounds from over 20 clubs at area golf courses in Monticello, Elk River and some as far north as Brainerd and as far south as Red Wing. She noted the PCWC is not just made up of Becker residents when in fact, 42% of the members are from outside the community.
“We all choose to play at Pebble Creek and support the community,” she said.
The PCWC is still looking for hole sponsorships, items for their raffle and auction and volunteers for the event. Contact Potter by phone at 763-234-7434 or by email at bpotter1984@yahoo.com.
