Equipment Purchased By Becker For Streets

In another very quick meeting, the Becker City Council completed their second of their bi-monthly meetings in expeditious time Tuesday night.

During guests and open forum, Jeannette Burkhardt of the Great River Regional Library in Becker gave her annual report to council.

Council then quickly covered the committee reports which included personnel and public works and then they moved on to administrator and staff reports.
Chris Lisson of public works requested council approve the replacement of the city’s 1995 81DJ Durapatcher with a new 125DJT Durapatcher from Swanston Equipment Companies.

Lisson said the current durapatcher machine was purchased used and is 24 years old. He says the machine requires more maintenance time and expense to remain operational.

Lisson says the new Durapatcher is present on the state bid  contract. He said quotes were obtained from Swanston Equipment Companies and Ruffride-Johnson  Equipment Company, Inc. The quote from Swanston Equipment Companies came in at $71,963.  He says this  number reflects the trade-in value of $5,000 for the 1995 81DJ Durapatcher.

Lisson told council the quote from Ruffridge- Johnson Equipment Company, Inc. came in at $77,035 with no trade-in offered on the city’s current machine. He recommended to purchase  the 125DJT Durapatcher from Swantson Equipment Companies.

The 125DJT Durapatcher will be used by public works staff for crack filling on roadways throughout the city.

Lisson says the public works committee has reviewed and approved this proposal to replace the 81DJ Durapatcher with a new 125DJT Durapatcher.

Lisson says $60,000 was set aside in the CIP budget for the replacement of the old Durapatcher.  The Swanston Equipment Companies quote was $76,963 minus the $5,000 trade-in value for the current  machine. In addition, Lisson said the city received $7,447.50 from the sale of excess equipment, which will be  applied to this purchase.

Council approved.

Council then approved the consent agenda which featured a hiring and termination report for finance and a job description approval for a deputy clerk.
