Dog Kennel Cu Ps Headed Back For County Review

After more than 30 minutes of discussion Monday, the Clearwater Township Board of Supervisors voted to refer two dog kennel  business owners back to Wright County for potential new hearings on their conditional use permits (CUPs).

The board periodically reviews CUPs to make sure business owners are complying with the established conditions. Monday’s review included kennels owned by Sonja Dahlberg Beavers and Diane Stirling.

Supervisors Bill Langenbacher and Rose Thelen had made site visits to both businesses Aug. 2 to get a first hand look at the operations.

During Monday’s review, both Langenbacher and Thelen said both operations were clean and well-run. The only issue they had were some compliants by neighbors about dogs barking.

The board had three options to choose from Monday: recommend approval to extend the CUP because the business was in full compliance; recommend revoking the CUP because the applicant has definitely not complied with the conditions of the CUP,  or recommend another hearing before the county planning commission to discuss any outstanding issues.

Since there were issues regarding barking dogs, the board chose the option to sent both CUPs back to the county for further discussion and review.

Langenbacher said the county could make a final decision or send the issue back to the township for further review.

Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ludenia gave an update of the 150th Street road project. The project is the reconstruction and paving of approximately 9,100 feet of roadway from Grover Ave. to Ferman Ave. It is a shared project with Silver Creek Twp.   Originally, the project was going to be limited to reconstruction and re-graveling, but the township applied for and received a $750,000 state grant to have it paved with blacktop.

Monday, Ludenia said the contractor was scheduled to haul in the gravel base starting this past Tuesday, with the blacktop contractor following this upcoming Tuesday.

Weather permitting, the first wear course could be done by the end of the week and the road opened to traffic. The final wear course will follow next spring after the road has had time to settle.
