The Clearwater Library was filled with colorful tiles and patrons busy gluing and grouting them last Saturday.
The occasion was the library’s beginning mosaic program, held for patrons interested in learning the art form, Patrons could bring in their own item to create their mosaic on or use one of the square ceramic tiles provided by the library.
The class was set up for two Saturdays. During the first session patrons created their designs and glued their tiles onto their forms. The second Saturday those patrons then grouted their pieces, some adding color to the grout to help make their designs “pop.”
Patrons who hadn’t attended the first session spent Saturday on the first steps, creating their design and gluing on the pieces.
On hand was a nearly limitless number of colorful tiles in a variety of sizes, as well as pieces of stained glass and clear glass stones.
One patron, Dana Guse, drove nearly two hours to attend the class. Her mosaic design incorporated a colorful spring flower.
“I really wanted to try it out to see if I liked it,” she said. “I enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun.”
The Clearwater Library is holding another mosaic grouting class April 6 for patrons who weren’t able to get their art completed during the first two sessions.
