CW Legion Riders’ annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale raises money for vets

The Clearwater American Legion was once again an explosion of color last Saturday as, just in time for Mother’s Day, the Clearwater American Legion Riders held their annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale.

Begun over 10 years ago, their first sale featured 30 hanging baskets for the community to choose from. As the sale proved popular, the group moved up to offering 50 plants, then 100, and this year there were over 150 hanging baskets available for purchase. The beautiful containers of flowering plants typically sell out quickly, so returning community members know they need to get to the sale early.

“I just want to thank the Clearwater community for always being there and supporting the Legion Riders,” said ALR Member and organizer Audra Pederson. “Because they were right there when we started at 9 a.m. we sold 100 of our plants within an hour.”

Each year the Legion Riders get all their plants from Dan and Jerry’s out of Monticello.

“They always give us the best looking and best smelling plants,” said Pederson. “And they did not fail to do so again this year.”

The money raised from the plant sale helps the Legion Riders begin funding their annual Homeless Vets Run and Fundraiser held in August. All of the money raised from that event goes to organizations dedicated to helping veterans.
