Clearwater Dinner Theatre is coming soon.
This year’s production, Scrambled, will run for three weekends: April 13-14, April 20-21 and April 27-28 at Eagle Trace Country Club.
Suesan Betzler says she is excited to be able to direct the Clearwater Cast of Characters for the second straight time after last year’s successful performance of Here Come the Brides.
“I actually decided I’d be directing this before we even started last year’s play,” she says. “Last year when I was looking for a play, I thought I should read other plays and I fell in love with this one too.”
Betzler said she asked other cast members to read the play, including former director Donna Stai.
“She read both plays and she said to me we need to do both of them,” says Betzler. “And everybody was already excited about it even before we finished last year’s production.”
This year’s story focuses around Purdy’s Showtime Cafe, its owner, the people who frequent the place and the characters who show up there.
Purdy and her high school boyfriend broke up after high school, but pledged if they were still single 30 years later, they’d hook up again.
It’s 30 years later, and rumors have it her old boyfriend is back in town to sell his old house. But Purdy is also expecting a food critic to visit the diner. Purdy doesn’t know what her old boyfriend looks like anymore, and doesn’t know the food critic. So the fun begins when everyone who enters the diner could be the food critic or her old boyfriend.
This year’s cast includes Donna Stai, Kent Asheim, Amanda Spry, Tricia Tellers, Jen Campbell, Trevor Ericksen Gary Phelps, Sandra Ernst, Andrew Kinzer, Matt Luczak, Keerstyn Phelps, Deb Cole, Sara Tellers and Rick Johnson.
“It’s been fun to have some returning characters and new fresh faces,” says Betzler. “Everyone is excited about the production and the cast. It’s an amazing group.”
Tickets ($26) are on sale now and include the play and the meal.
The meal choices are Roasted Chicken Parmesan, Pork Prime w/demi glaze or Fettuccine Alfredo w/shrimp. Reservations can be made either at Eagle Trace Country Club or by calling 320-406-8899. Doors open at 6 p.m.
