Corn Field Escapade Doesn’t Help Becker Man

A Becker man caused some excitement for the local authorities, leading them on a chase into Benton County, then back to the City of Becker before being apprehended Monday afternoon.
 
The man, Binh Phuc Cao, 40, Becker, was taken into custody after police used stop sticks to deflate tires on his vehicle on Sherburne Avenue at 103rd Street.
 
Becker police were alerted to Cao at about 12:53 p.m. when police initiated a traffice stop on his vehicle, noticing the driver had a felony warrant for his arrest.
 
The warrant was for a charge of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct out of Wright county.
 
The driver failed to pull over while driving through the City of Becker, traveling at speeds of 30 to 40 miles per hour.
 
He led authorities north and out of the city toward Benton county, traveling at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. In Benton County, he tried to evade authorities by driving through a corn field.
 
He then drove back to the City of Becker, where his tires were deflated. The pursuit lasted 39 minutes and the distance was 35 miles. 
 
The suspect was transported to the Sherburne County Jail and booked on pending charges of felony fleeing in a motor vehicle and for the warrant.
 
Agencies assisting the Becker police included the Sherburne and Benton County sheriff;s offices and the Minnesota State Patrol.
