Community brings Co. Rd. 93 concerns to Becker Twp.

Becker Twp. met February 18 to go over the police report, community forum, and regular agenda items.

The board members  started the meeting off with a motion to accept the consent agenda, which passed. Next was the residential concerns open forum where there was a discussion of taking back Co. Rd. 93 from the county. The citizens that live on Co. Rd. 93 have already signed a petition which needed eight signatures in order to get submitted.

The board will need to formally accept the petition and discuss it at the next board meeting. The petition must meet all the standards for it to be considered.

There was a motion to accept the petition for Co. Rd. 93 which passed.

Planning Commission/Joint Board

Next on the agenda was the planning commission and joint planning board. They discussed easement information along boundary adjustments, and a shipping container ordinance.

Engineer’s Report

The Engineers Report consisted of road maintenance, establishing a road, and road projects. There was a complaint from a resident on Peggy Place about a lip in their driveway due to the road construction over the summer. A contractor was sent there to check it out and everything seemed to be in order.

There was also debate over the township purchasing land and not actually receiving the land, so there is work in place to maintain access for said property.

Sheriff’s Report

The sheriff’s report consisted of 156 calls of service with eight of those being accidents, three property damage, and one personal injury. The same report was given to Santiago about the new dispatch center along with the shop with the police event.

Concerns

A concern came from a homeowner who had their mailbox destroyed by a snowmobiler. The homeowner decided to put tape across their driveway, which made it inaccessible for snowmobilers to cross. Since there were already trails assigned to snowmobilers before the homeowners built their house, the tape was taken down from the driveway.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer’s report included a 2024 resolution to join the central Mississippi River partnership. The resolution passed.

Other Items

At the town hall, there are two elections coming up on the 22nd. There was also talk about the draft for the new township website which would have all the information on the town’s meetings. There was a motion to approve the treasurer’s report which passed. There was also a motion to accept the 2025 budget which passed. Finally, there was a motion to pass the 3% increase in two steps. One being current and one in six months
