Wednesday, the Clear Lake Fire Dept. delivered fire escape ladders to four licensed daycares within their protection area.
The fire department sent a letter to the Central MN Noon Optimist Club asking for enough money to purchase these ladders. The CLFD was given $400 to be spend on the ladders.
“I feel that visiting daycare age children is important because they do not get the exposure like school age kids get (fire prevention),” said Firefighter Kari Mechtel. “The daycares are required to follow very stringent rules and if we can help with fire safety items, it makes everyone sleep a little better at night.”
Listed below are the names of daycares and daycare information –
Julie Schendzielos, owner of Future Impressions Child Care, has seven children she provides daycare for — ages preschool to school age.
Schendzielos said “she loves the fact that our fire department takes time out of their day to pay us a visit and this ladder is greatly appreciated.”
Another daycare visited is run by owner Tracey Whaley, who takes care of 4-5 school-age children.
Molly Malikowski, who has been doing daycare for seven years, provides daycare for five little ones. She says she “is very excited to receive the ladder.”
Katie Gohman of KidLogic — who tends to 12-to-14 kids ranging in ages from infant to schoolage, was also presented a safety ladder.
