Clearwater SAL holds annual kids fishing contest

Kids lined the shores of the Mill Pond in Clearwater last Saturday for the Clearwater Sons of the American Legion’s (SAL) kids fishing contest.

A total of 43 kids participated in the annual event held at Riverside Park. The rain held off, making it a nice day for fishing, and kids and adults lined the banks and waded out into the shallow areas of the Clearwater River.

All who participated were given an American flag, a bag of tackle, and either a fishing pole or tackle box. Hot dogs, cookies, and pop were available for when the kids were ready to take a break from fishing before heading back out.

Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place. Cam took first place with his 3lb. 1½ oz. Northern Pike. Second place went to Aliyah, who brought in an 8 oz. Bluegill, followed closely by Hunter in third place with his 6 oz. Sunfish.

SAL members extended a big thank you to the businesses who helped make the event happen, which included Coborn’s donation of hot dogs and pop and Kwik Trip’s donation of cookies. Clearwater Parts City donated the worms and Stop Light Bait and Runnings donated the tackle.
