During their annual dinner last week, the Clearwater Lions honored Clearview third grader Cami M. for winning the district’s drug awareness poster contest in the third-grade category.
Clearview Elementary students in second through fifth grade recently participated in the Clearwater Lions and Lioness club’s annual drug awareness poster contest. First place winners in each grade advanced to the 2019 Midwest Convention contest where they competed against winners from the 52 clubs in District 5M7.
The students created their posters in art teacher Anna Barton’s classes. Each student came up with his or her own anti-drug message and then illustrated that message on their poster. The project gets the students to stop and think about the effects of drugs and why they should avoid them.
The students’ completed posters are brought to the Clearwater Lions and Lionesses, who select winners from each classroom based on the student’s message, neatness and creativity. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners.
Cami was presented a cash prize and plaque honoring her accomplishment by District 5M7 Gov. Al Kvistero. Clearview art teacher Anna Barton was also invited to attend the dinner.
Her winning poster depicted animals and colorful objects along with the word “drugs” being erased with a pencil eraser.
