Two Clearview Elementary students really pushed themselves during the school’s April Morning Mile program, running the most miles and each winning a free pair of shoes.
The students were challenged to see who could run the most miles during the school’s Morning Mile initiative, with the top two runners winning a brand-new pair of athletic shoes of their choice. This is the third time this year shoes have been awarded.
The Morning Mile is a before-school running/walking program that was started last fall to give students the chance to actively start each day with music and friends. The goal of the initiative is to increase activity and help fight childhood obesity.
Fourth grader Ian Kuffner ran the furthest in grades 3-5, with 25.16 miles; he picked out a pair of New Balance athletic shoes. In grades K-2 the winner was first grader William Sayre, who ran 23.16 miles. He chose a pair of Under Armour shoes.
The shoes were donated by Horace Mann and Scheels.
