Clearview Offers Goal Setting In Place Of Traditional Open House

Clearview Elementary is starting off the school year in a new way. In place of the traditional open house held before the start of school each year, they’re holding goal setting conferences individually with parents and their children.

A couple schools in District 742 used goal setting conferences last year. They were so successful it was decided to spread them across all the elementary schools in the district.

Principal Sheri Rutar says the goal setting conferences will allow parents to share information about their children, along with the hopes and dreams they have for them. They will also allow teachers to get to know each child on a more personal level.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Rutar. “Teachers will learn about strengths and challenges from both the parents and the child, which gives them a focus area to foster growth and student achievement.”

Teachers will also share data on STAR (standardized testing and reporting) testing during the conferences.

The goal setting conferences will be held Aug. 30 and Sept. 6. All elementary students will actually begin classes Wednesday, Sept. 7.
