Clearview Elementary student Lauren Gazdzik has been named the school’s 2019 National Geographic GeoBee winner.
The GeoBee is a national geography competition for schools designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world.
This year, students in grades four through eight from nearly 10,000 schools across the country will be competing for college scholarships and the opportunity to be named national champion.
Two student finalists from each fourth and fifth grade class competed for the Clearview GeoBee championship. They included Sutton, Micah, Ian, Payton, Lauren, Claudia, Hali, Ailee, Elise, Lila and Claudia.
To be crowned champion, students first took a written test. Each of the 10 finalists then took an oral test, which Gazdzik placed highest on.
Monday, she took the online test to qualify for the state championship, the results of which will be released March 4. The top 100 ranked students in each state will qualify to represent their school in the State GeoBee on March 29, 2019.
State GeoBee winners move on to the national championship in Washington D.C. on May 19-22, 2019.
