Clearview Elementary families and friends gathered together after the school day ended last Friday for Clearview’s annual Cinco de Mayo Family Fiesta Night.
The school was filled with kids of all ages, parents, staff and volunteers, who were all there to either take part in or help with the event, which included food, games and fun activities.
Attendees were greeted with colorful papel picado banners hanging from the ceiling to lead the way to the fun, which were created by two of the third-grade classes. Papel picado is a Mexican folk art in which designs are cut from colored tissue paper to create banners.
Kids tried their luck at a number of games, including the lollipop tree, cup stacking, bingo, duck pond, plinco, soda pop ring toss, Frisbee toss, bean bag toss, cake walk and three ‘minute to win it’ activities; penny stack-up, cookie stack-up and movin’ on up cup race.
To the delight of students, there was a new game this year called ‘poo toss,’ which consisted of attempting to throw a poo emoji into an actual toilet. There was also an obstacle course and two Escape Rooms, where participants solved clues and used strategy to complete objectives and ‘escape.’
Young and old alike had fun with the fiesta-themed props at the photo booth, and kids had the opportunity to make their own colorful pinwheels. Attendees could also partake in music and karaoke, tattoos, crazy hair, and nail and face painting.
Students from Tech High School were on hand to help with the games and activities.
When it was time for a break, attendees headed to the cafeteria, where Principal Sheri Rutar was helping to serve beef and chicken tacos with fixings, chips, salsa and water.
Clearview’s Spring Book Fair was open during the event so families could take the opportunity to discover new books to purchase and bring home to read together.
The Cinco de Mayo celebration was Clearview’s last family fun night for the school year. Sponsored by the PTA, the school’s family fun nights are held throughout the year to bring the Clearview community together to celebrate and have fun.
