Clearview Fundraiser Nearing Goal

The Third-Annual “Walk-a-Thon” fund-raiser at Clearview Elementary School was nearing its goal Wednesday afternoon with donations of more than $18,000 having been raised by the end of the day.  Art teacher Kathy Gerdts-Senger and volunteer Debbie Erickson, a current St. Cloud School Board member and former Clearview PTSA president, are maintaining a running tally as donations continued to come in, Gerdts-Senger said.

The goal is to raise $20,000 to support classroom field trips and educational programs used to supplement the regular curriculum. Students, staff and faculty have been engaged in recent weeks in talking with relatives, friends and neighbors about the benefits of the Clearview school extra-curricular programs and the need for continuing financial support.

Students from all grade levels took part in a series of events throughout the day on Wednesday, which included Frisbee® games, an obstacle course and other games designed to promote physical activity.   Phy Ed teacher George Bienusa directed the various activities on the field, and music teacher Ann Marie Schlichting had the students up and dancing on the playground to “YMCA” and other rocking tunes played over the portable public address system.
