Clearview 4th Graders Celebrate 100 Days

Last Tuesday was Clearview Elementary’s 100th day of school, which the school’s fourth graders celebrated by constructing 100-day creations.

Fourth grade teacher Terri Weber brought the idea to the school; she had seen a similar project her first year substitute teaching in New Jersey and loved the idea.

“Each student was tasked to make and bring their own unique project that shows 100 of the same item,” she said. “The projects they’ve brought in have been fabulous!”

Along with including 100 of the same item, the only parameters the students had was for their project to be on some sort of base so it could be hung up or displayed on a table.

The fourth graders’ projects were full of variety and creativity. Posters filled with 100 colorful beads, Q-Tips, cotton balls, stickers, candy, googly eyes and crayons lined the room along with 3D displays of Lego® creations, mobiles and a flower pot filled with Dum Dum lollypops.

One student folded up 100 paper fortune tellers (a form of origami) and wrote the numbers 1 through 100 inside of them so they could be seen when opened.
Another student used the Disney movie Up for inspiration, attaching 100 balloons to her poster. The balloons were made to look like they were tied to a house that was floating through the sky, just like in the movie.

It was the first year Clearview fourth graders participated in the project, but based on the enthusiasm and creativity shown it won’t be the last.

The students’ completed projects are on exhibit in the hallway near the fourth-grade classrooms. Clearview’s 100th day of school celebration builds on math concepts and engages students in activities that promote fun and memorable learning.
