Clear Lake Twp. Moves Out Of Town Hall And Into City Hall

April 16, the Clear Lake Twp. board of supervisors held their last meeting in the 1922 historic town hall on Main Street.

Tuesday, they moved out of the building and into Clear Lake City Hall, where they expect to be located until the new township hall is built.

“We’re sorry to see it go but it’s outlived its usefulness,” said Clear Lake Twp. Chairman Gary Gray. “We needed to upgrade, and we’re looking forward to our new adventure. We hope the new one [town hall] lasts as long as the old.”

The building has been purchased with plans to use it for storage and woodworking. The sale was contingent upon the site being rezoned to B1 central business district, which surrounding property is already zoned as. The Clear Lake City Council approved the rezoning during their meeting Monday night.

Tuesday, Gray and the new owners closed on the property.

“In the short term, we will be using Clear Lake City Hall for all our public needs,” said Gray. “Including monthly and special meetings and elections.”

He stressed that the township will not be keeping any regular business hours at City Hall, and employees there won’t be answering any township questions.

“The city has been very accommodating and gracious in allowing us to use their facility,” Gray continued. “And the Clear Lake Twp. staff has been great in accepting the challenge of moving.”

If everything falls into place with the new township hall project as planned, they project they will start building in spring 2020 and move in either late 2020 or early 2021.
