The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners last week approved a plat amendment and conditional use permit that will allow the Township of Clear Lake to build a new town hall.
The first action was approving an amendment to the Riverwood Addition cluster plat on a 19.93 acre parcel at 80th Ave. SE and 116th Street.
When the Riverwood plat was approved in 2004, 50% open space was required on the plat. Last week’s amendment allowed for less than 50% open space in the plat, which also allowed the township to split off a five-acre lot to be used for a new town hall building.
The board also approved a conditional use permit to build the town hall.
At the last meeting of the Sherburne County Planning Advisory Commission, Clear Lake Township Chair Gary Gray said they are currently located in a 95-year old building and have been searching for their own identity outside city limits.
Gray said the township has been saving for a long time. They acquired the parcel about 10 years ago and first needed to address all the issues with the county before getting started on a building proposal.
A schematic design of the floor plan shows a 84’x 52’ footprint. The building includes council chambers, lobby, administration and clerk counter, record storage area, three offices, separate men’s and women’s bathrooms, kitchen/break room and the main entrance vestibule facing south. It also includes a space for a row of vintage seats from the old town hall.
Gray said the approval of the town hall location and construction of the building and the costs will all be determined at the annual township meeting in March of 2018.
