The Clear Lake Legion is birthing a Sons of the American Legion squadron this month.
S.A.L. members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership. Members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion comprise the Legion Family, which has a combined membership of nearly 4.2 million.
The new Clear Lake S.A.L. squadron will have their own legion charter and elect their own officers.
Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day and the legion will conduct their first meeting for the S.A.L. at the Palmer Town Hall at 7 p.m.
Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires and offers young men a chance to be part of the legion, the largest veterans organization in the country.
To start the S.A.L., the legion needs to have a minimum of 10 members to start a charter squadron and so far eight people have joined.
