The class of 2025 at Becker High school graduated on May 30th.
The students marched onto their football field while their band played behind them, directed by Justin Frerich.
After the graduating class had reached their seats, the national anthem was sung.
Becker high school principal, David Kreft, gave a speech recognizing the achievements of this year’s class. He then took a moment to celebrate the students who were going into the military, asking them to stand in praise of their commitment. The list includes eight students going into either the Army, National Guard, Air Force, or the Marines.
Next the band played a recording of “Dragon Slayer” performed by the high school musicians before allowing student speaker Maria Moore to say a few words about her class. Moore was selected by Becker’s site-based committee that was made to give students more of a voice.
After her speech, the choir members sang “The Irish Blessing”, directed by Gretchen Bordson.
Next, social studies teacher, Michelle Kuseke, garnered with an honorary gown by the students, gave a speech, first thanked those who voted for her to make a speech, then to the wider class.
Assistant principal, Brian Baloun, stepped in to make a speech for Carla Nolan, the executive director, who couldn’t make the graduation ceremony. He recognized the top honor students, almost 20 graduating with top honors, and 30 with honors with a total grade point average of 3.6.
This led the way for Kailey Sherrard and Aliyah Szabla, student speakers, to congratulate those who joined Becker’s Hall of Fame, which are people who’ve met the criteria made by the committee including things like significant contributions to the community and such. They introduced Rachel Engen, Class of 2000, and Mike Hart, Class of 1966. Rachel gave a speech, but a classmate of Mike Hart gave his.
Finally, Superintendent, Dr. Jeremy Schmidt, presented the students with their diplomas from the staff.
