Clearwater was filled with the roaring sounds of horsepower last weekend as the annual Chaos in Clearwater Demolition Derby returned to town for the third year. The event, held Friday and Saturday nights, was brought to the rodeo grounds by the Silver Bullet Saddle Club (SBSC).
Both days the event kicked off with the Children’s Power Wheels Derby. Free for participants, the event was open to kids three to 10 years old. Outfitted with helmets and driving derby decorated ‘cars’, the kids had a great time ‘smashing’ into one another.
Each evening of the derby featured a variety of vehicle classes, including mighty minis, compact chain, stock minivan, and limited weld trucks. Friday’s main class was full size limited weld, 80s chain was featured Saturday.
Along with the derby itself, another looked forward to event Saturday evening was the chance to drive in the 80’s chain car class. Those without a demo car who dreamt of participating in the derby had the chance to make their dream come true by having their name drawn from the raffle tickets sold beforehand. This year’s winner came in third!
Each day plenty of food and beverages were available for attendees looking for refreshments, including cold beer at the Clearwater Lions’ beer garden.
Saturday night the fun continued long into the evening, with entertainment provided by the World’s Nuttiest DJ Chopper at the conclusion of that night’s derby.
SBSC expressed thanks to the community, attendees, and sponsors, JSA Services, Lawn Rangers, Larry Carlson Trucking, Ziegler CAT, ML Schendzielos Excavating, Parts City Auto Parts Clearwater, Clearwater Lions, and Clear Lake Lions.
