Business As Usual At Santiago

The Santiago Twp. Board Wednesday discussed road work, a party-in-the-park event, a trespassing complaint and issues with poles and doors at township hall.

Road Report
Supervisor Dave Jehoich said last month’s report said he would get two bids for crack-sealing when in fact he got three. The three enterprises submitting bids are Astec, Jeff Rhodes and Schiendzelos.

Jehoich talked about having rip-rap installed on the south side of a culvert and having the ditches mowed sometime after July 1. He also mentioned a bid came in for $8,000+ to re-do the shoulder on 20th Street.

Jehoich and several others talked about getting the minimum maintenance road along 17th graded because of the deep ruts that have developed along the gravel road.

Fire & Rescue
Matt Weber said the Becker FD received 30 calls for service in the month of May with six being attributed to Santiago Twp. Of the six, four were for medical, one for a fire alarm and one for a gas leak.

Weber said equipment has been checked and all is doing weel and firefighters are spending some time on cleaning things up as the summer progresses.

Park Report
It was reported the park’s watering system was turned on and is operating well.

Members of the park committee are planning a party-in-the-park” event Aug. 5 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. that will replace the old Santiago Days event. They plan to have a DJ, sell beer and pull-tabs and serve food. The goal is to possibly open the event next year to vendors and make it even a bigger event if all goes weel this year.

Building Report
Weber said he and some others have made brackets for the poles outside township hall that tend to sway too much in the wind. Weber says the footings aren’t deep enough and the brackets should be a good solution to the problem for now.

Weber also said when the insurance agent came through a while ago, he said the doors on the fire station will need to be adjusted at some point to prolong the life of the doors. His estimate for the adjustment is around $600.
The board said they will be sure and budget for that cost in next year’s budget cycle.

Sheriff’s Report
Deputy Oaches said his department saw 97 calls for service in the month of May with 37 of those calls being for traffic and six for medicals.

Jehoich said he received a complaint from a property owner on 41st Street who says she has trespassers on her property where she has placed a picnic table. She told the board she has put up three “no trespassing” signs at three locations on her property, yet she is still having the problem.

Oaches said he would have the situation looked into and report back to the board next month.
