Bryce was at it again as he held his second annual, “Cancer Sucks: Relay for ‘Love’ Life” event last weekend.
For four days, nine-year-old Bryce Roelike of Becker held a special garage sale for all the people in his life who have been affected by cancer. The proceeds from Bryce’s sale and the generous donations (not yet realized) are to be delivered to the local American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraising organization.
Last year, Bryce held the sale at his aunt’s garage and took in nearly $1,700, which was matched by D.M. Motors of Clearwater. When it was all said and one, Bryce had raised over $4,150 for the cancer society.
This year, Bryce moved the sale to a bigger venue — the old fire hall in Becker — and the public didn’t disappoint. No price tags were found on the garage sale items — all Bryce asked was for the purchaser to pay what they thought was a fair price.
Though the garage sale is in the past, Bryce will still be fielding donations from individuals and groups from all over the area and the total he brings in will be calculated and totaled at the Becker Relay for Life cancer walk the weekend of July 22-23.
Bryce’s sale each year is held to honor his grandmother, his mom and his aunt, who have all been affected by cancer.
To kick off the first day of Bryce’s garage sale Thursday, members of the Becker Fire Dept. surprised Bryce by showing up at the sale and giving Bryce a ride in their big, red truck. They rolled through Becker with their lights and siren on and allowed young Bryce to sound the horn to let the city of Becker know his sale was starting.
Bryce’s grandmother supplied a table at the sale with fresh, homemade banana bread that attracted many hungry visitors.
Bryce and his family wish to thank all those who supported his cause.
“We would like to thank everyone who came and showed Bryce their support during his Cancer Sucks garage sale,” said Bryce’s mom, Kelli. “We are still receiving and gladly accepting cash donations. We will know the grand total by the Becker Relay for Life cancer walk.”
Bryce Roelike is the son of Tim and Kelli Martin of Becker.
