BL Twp. Hall to Get Indoor AED

The Big Lake Twp. Board had a full table with the return of Larry Alfords from his winter vacation.

AED

Supervisor Mark Hedstrom brought up the idea of potentially adding an AED to the inside of the town hall last meeting. During this meeting, Hedstrom offered options for two different AED quotes that could be beneficial. Option one is a bit more expensive than option two, however while in use a person is still able to perform CPR while the machine is working. Both options have an eight year warranty.

Option two has interchangeable pads for infants. Supervisor Dean Brenteson asked, “What happens if you forget to switch the AED from adult to child/infant? Is there any harm?” Hedstrom responded that any kind of shock is better than no shock. However, even though the shock is higher for adults it will not cause any damage, just more efficient. Treasurer’s Assistant Becky Guthrie asked about the potential for having an outdoor one due to traffic of residents. Brenda Kimberly-Maas mentioned Haven having an outdoor AED in their Township. The board members were hesitant to the idea at first due to the idea of vandalism or even theft; however, Kimberly-Maas mentioned reaching out to Haven to ask more about their system and how they avoid theft.

The board decided to move forward with option one of their AED choices and will table the discussion about outdoor AEDs for the time being.

Shoreland and Flood Plain Ordinance Revision

From the tabled discussion last meeting, the board revisited the ordinance revision. Brenteson expressed his concern over the setback for Eagle Lake changing to 50ft. Brenteson requested clarification on why the change is occurring, and what the logic was behind the decision was. The board of supervisors agreed that there needed to be some clarification and requested a change be made or an explanation. The board was in agreement, not wanting drain fields at 50ft and so close to water.

Roads

Brenteson relayed to the board that the contracts have come in and the Road committee will soon start scheduling overlay projects for this year. The Road committee also set up their road tour for April 16th-19th with the ability to add any extra days as they need to.
