BL City Council hears from resident, departments

It was a short agenda at the recent Big Lake City Council meeting, as the council heard a complaint at open forum about a private business, and heard reports from the engineering and wastewater departments.

Open Forum

Bret Collier of Big Lake Township spoke during open forum. He spoke in opposition to the drag show recently hosted by Lupulin Brewing, claiming that the show would be a poor influence on younger residents of Big Lake. The show was only meant for adults 18 and over, but he noted several individuals whom he believed appeared younger going into the show.

Engineering Report

City Engineer Layne Otteson reported that the city was given a grant towards creating pedestrian walkways. Otteson and his staff are currently working on putting the project together.

Otteson also had a brief conversation with council about the new roundabout that would be put in at Co. Rd. 43 and Glenwood.

Wastewater Report

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) was given an award by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for demonstrating consistent compliance with monitoring, operations, and maintenance requirements. Dan Childs, director of the department, expressed his gratitude for the hard work of all his employees in helping the WWTF earn the award.
