Last week, representatives of the Minnco credit union came out to give the warming house at the Big Lake hockey rink a “face lift.”
Minnco makes an effort to do projects such as this in all the communities it serves. This was their first project in Big Lake, as they have only been in the community since June. The project was organized under an initiative called “CU Forward Day,” in which credit unions, not just Minnco, have taken time to give back to their communities since 2017. In 2019, 4,000 volunteers from 58 credit unions dedicated their time to community projects.
Yvonne Blum, branch manager at Minnco in Big Lake, said that Corrie Scott, recreation and communication coordinator for the city of Big Lake, pointed out that the warming house was in need of some TLC when the two women met at a farmer’s market.
Blum says that she hopes to fix up the panels around the ice rink for their “CU Forward Day” next year.
The Big Lake branch of the Minnco credit union is off of Hwy. 10, near Dairy Queen.
