Big Lake Twp. Completes Spring Road Tour

During the recent Big Lake Town Board meeting, Supervisor Dean Brenteson said the board completed their bi-annual road tour earlier in the day. Supervisor Larry Alfords commented that the tree trimming efforts are really beginning to show.

There is still a good amount of overlaying yet to do on township roads in order to get caught up to where they need to be, as all the roads are approaching their 20 year age limit.

This year, the board intends to take on crack filling, overlaying, and seal coating projects.

Resident Bret Collier asked the board when they planned to start road sweeping. Brenteson replied they weren’t sure if they would sweep at all, as the roads looked fine during the road tour. Collier responded that his road had a lot of sand from the winter, so much to the point where he couldn’t see the road. The board supervisors were dubious of this, and said it looked fine to them during their tour. They also noted that as soon as there was some strong rain, the road would get washed off some. Regardless, they told Collier they could take a second look at his street.

Business from the Board

Supervisor Mark Hedstrom noted the county would be moving forward with their plan to place two lithium battery collection sites. Also, there is a new type of battery on the market now that poses less fire risk than lithium batteries. They are known as iron phosphate batteries. Sherco will be using one of these new batteries for their new on site storage unit, which has local fire departments feeling better about the project.

Supervisor Bruce Aubol noted there would be a new cannabis microbusiness in Livonia. They met all the conditions of the zoning board and the decision was passed on to the county commissioners for the final decision.
