Last week on Facebook, a GoFundMe link was going around to support Courtney (19) and Abi (13) Stubbe. The girls are two former Big Lake students who recently lost their mom, Sue Stubbe, unexpectedly.
The girls were both involved in Big Lake athletics, according to family friend Paul Krumrei. Both Abi and Courtney were talented athletes for the Hornet softball teams, and they, along with their mom, were supportive of the community of young athletes as a whole.
“Everyone called her Momma Sue,” Krumrei said, saying that Sue Stubbe by nature took care of everyone around her, accepting them as her family. “She was the strongest woman you could imagine, for being a single mom and raising those beautiful girls.”
The family left Big Lake a few years ago to move to Chaska, but left many loving friends in the Big Lake community.
“I love those girls like my own daughters,” said Krumrei, whose own kids were close friends with the girls. “They’re really amazing girls, and this loss is so hard for them.”
The GoFundMe fundraiser will help the girls pay funeral costs, rent, and other miscellaneous expenses as they grieve the sudden loss of their mom.
“I want to give a huge thanks to anyone who donates,” Krumrei said. “It’s going to take a long time to heal from this loss.”
Many Big Lakers showed their support for the grieving family through comments on Facebook and donations to the girls.
