Bhs Hosts State Leadership Convention

A group of 350 students and their advisors from around the state converged on Becker High School last weekend for the annual Minnesota Association of Honor Societies/Minnesota Association of Student Councils (MAHS/MASC).

The program was centered on the theme of “Unmasking Leadership,” and included a number of small group and general assembly sessions, guest speakers and a full slate of activities including dinners, dances and an activity night in the BHS field house with dodge ball, a climbing wall and a hypnotist, according to organizer Nancy Lorentz, BHS media specialist.

The program also included election of officers for the coming year, which saw Becker sophomore Kalley Anderson elected as state-wide vice president of the MAHS.  Candidates stood around their campaign boards in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center Saturday afternoon, handing out literature (and candy in some cases) as they made their pitches for the various offices.

The activities continued Sunday, finishing with a semi-formal banquet in St. Cloud followed by a delegates dance until the 11 p.m. curfew.

The program ended on Monday morning with the seventh and final general session of the convention, where awards were announced, executive committees were named and a highlight video of the conference just passed was shown before the event was formally adjourned by the MAHS/MASC presidents.
