A group of 12 student artists from the Becker School District have been selected to have their works included in “Celebrating Art”, to be published by Dick Blick Art Materials, Inc., an art material supply company located in Galesburg, IL. The company produces a new volume of the book each year, which includes outstanding work from student artists around the country.
BHS art teacher Jo Svaren said that she had submitted 24 student works to the book contest this year, and that she was very pleased to have had 12 student works selected for inclusion in the project. Following are the names of the artists chosen, their grade level and the type of work presented:
Tori Renter-Thomas, 10, fruit still life; Alexa Schween, 6, Klee landscape; Austin Vdakes, 11, symbolic self-portrait; Cassie Savage, 12, stippled cat; David Szabla, 9, symbolic self portrait; Haley Cox, 10, stippled tiger, Jessica Higdon, 11, symbolic self-portrait; Kaitlyn Roisdand, 11, fruit; Mackensie Corta, 6, Klee landscape; Kendra Buettner, 12, bird bath; Crystal Cortner, 12, “Bee-utiful jar”, and Anna Miller, 10, stippled horse.
The “symbolic self-portrait” by David Szabla is also featured among the student artworks now on display in the Becker Public Library through Thursday, May 8.
