JOLLY OLD ELVES. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making the season bright at the annual "Breakfast with Santa" at the Becker Community Center on Sat., Dec. 6 from 9-11 a.m., part of the busy "Black Saturday" menu of Holiday events taking place in Becker on that day.

Becker’s ‘Black Saturday’ Full Of Holiday Fun

A host of Holiday-themed events will take place Saturday, (Dec. 6) at various sites throughout the Becker area.

One of the longest-running is the 21st Annual Cookie Walk to be held at the Becker Methodist Church (12129 Hancock St.) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  The event will feature “traditional,” “fancy decorated” and “new” varieties of cookies all made by the ladies of the congregation for the annual fund-raiser, and hand-made mittens will be on sale as well.  Cookies sell for $7 per pound, and attendees are reminded to bring their own containers to haul away the Holiday goodies.

For the uninitiated, arriving at 9:15 for this event just won’t cut it, unless you are planning a Holiday spread of cookie crumbs and empty dishes.  It pays to be early at the door and quick on the draw once inside.

Just down the street, the Becker Community Center is hosting its annual “Breakfast with Santa”, also from 9-11 a.m. with eggs, sausage and pancakes served up by the Becker Lions Club.  Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more.  The Becker Girl Scouts will also be on hand, selling Christmas wreaths and greenery in the BCC lobby.
And don’t forget to bring a camera, as the youngsters will line up for a chat and some candy canes from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will make their usual entrance on the tall hook-and-ladder truck from the Becker Fire Dept.

Becker PTSA will also be holding a “Holiday Shop” just for kids from 8:30 a.m. to noon, an “exciting, magical experience” that allows children to shop for and buy Holiday gifts for friends and family members.

At the same time, the Becker Public Library will be sponsoring a musical entertainment in the BCC lobby featuring jazz pianist and singer Andrew Walesch, who will be performing from 9-11 a.m.

At 10 a.m., the annual Christmas Tree Ornament Festival will take place at the Sherburne History Center.  The event will feature arts and crafts, ornament making, snacks and beverages and a visit from Santa Claus.  The Command Performance Premiere, Prep and Prima choirs from Elk River will also be performing Christmas songs during the event.
The event is offered free of charge and is open to the public.  There will be a door prize of a free Christmas tree as well.

“Cooking with Mrs. Claus” will be held on Sat., Dec. 13 from 9-10:30 a.m., $10 for BCC members, $15 for not.
