Becker Veterans Monument Placed On Ve Day

The Becker Veterans Monument was fully set in place last Friday at city hall.

Several people involved in the project gathered around to watch the last elements get installed including a large black granite monument and a granite bench. Little Falls Granite Works provided the pieces and installed them.

Roger Bigalke, Mike McDowall and Al Scherping have been working to get the project off the ground for the last few years and have encountered a few hurdles along the way.

The monument placement last week coincided with the 75th anniversary of VE day. The historical significance of the day was on the minds of everyone involved.

“It couldn’t be a more fitting day to place a memorial,” Bigalke said.

The memorial features the all branches of the military and salutes veterans past, current and future. It also features a bench to sit on and reflect and three flags flying overhead. The inscription on the bench reads, “With Respect, Honor and Gratitude... Thank You Veterans.”
