The Becker Township Board met Monday evening, and the main agenda item was their 2023 audit report delivered by Schlenner, Wenner and Co.
Overall, the financial audit showed an unmodified (clean) rating, the highest that can be issued, since there were no significant errors or issues reported.
One new accounting standard required by state law is a software arrangement review and the township passed this with no issues noted.
In addition, the auditors reviewed the township’s compliance with state statute and found excellent compliance.
The financial picture for the township remains strong, as there is zero debt load and the expenditures and revenues remain similar to years past.
Planning
The United Bus Sales project continues to move forward, as the company will be developing a parcel in the Gateway Plaza area along Hwy. 10. Architectural standards will be reviewed soon and the landscape plan is expected to be filed shortly.
In other zoning news, a rezone for a commercial property along 137th Street is moving forward with an automobile dealership expected to be the new tenant.
CMRP
Chair Brian Kolbinger and city staffer Jacob Sanders discussed the CMRP’s recent meeting of the technical advisory committee, noting that the bridge alternatives continue to be discussed. An Open House will be held in conjunction with the Fall Fest at the History Center on Sept. 28.
In other business, the board:
• Heard the SCSO report from Sgt. Dan Frank, who noted a very busy month with 246 calls, with 101 traffic stops due to two separate grant programs. Co. Rd. 11 remans one of the highest patrolled roadways in the county, as Frank noted a number of speed enforcement actions taken over the last month with many of the offenders being residents who live on or near the roadway;
• Listened to Twp. Engineer William Tessmer’s report that 137th Street was wrapped up except for the striping;
• Approved a bid for the flooring work at Town Hall;
• Noted that the Becker American Legion continues to do work on their building, including wall construction and painting;
• Discussed the budget meeting set for Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
