TONI (L) AND BRANDON (R) BUESGENS opened the doors to their new business — Becker Spine — in April in the old GRSS Clinic next to the post office in Becker. Toni and Brandon are both licensed doctors of chiropractic care and are eager to help families and individuals improve their health.

Becker Spine: Not Your Ordinary Back Crackers

When one thinks of the term, “chiropractor”, the first thing that most likely comes to people’s minds is, “back-cracker”, right?

Well, chiropractors nowadays are more diversified and one such chiropractor recently opened their doors to advanced health and wellness.

Dr. Brandon Buesgens (30) and his wife, Toni (28), are the proud owners and doctors of chiropractic care of Becker Spine. They took over the 1,300-sq.ft. building once occupied by Great River Spine and Sport and have renovated and upgraded the facility.

They first opened their doors last April and have feverishly been integrating themselves into the community and aiding those whose illnesses, aches and pains and failing health have affected their day-to-day activities.
Brandon’s life changed when he suffered a knee injury during college at Gustavus.

“My first thoughts were, I can never play ball again,” he said. “I am stronger, faster, and can jump higher than ever before. Why did this injury happen doing such a simple task?”

What Brandon learned during his injury was that his body was out of balance and all the training he was doing was promoting bad habits in the joints he was trying to keep strongest.

“I learned that just by being not injured didn’t mean I was truly working towards the strength and health I really had as my goal,” Brandon said.

So Buesgens began studying exercise physiology and he later earned his B.A. The knowledge he learned inspired him to continue his education and get his doctorate in chiropractic care.

His wife, Toni, just recently received her doctorate and joined her husband at Becker Spine last month.

Brandon and Toni’s goals are to provide the highest quality wellness care they possibly can as they work to help families obtain their long-term health goals. The Buesgens are excited to live and work in the Becker community.
Before coming to Becker, Brandon was an associate doctor in Wayzata doing corrective chiropractic care. He got the itch to open his own business so he and Toni took a road trip about a year ago to Alexandria where they knew of some space for lease.

“We weren’t real thrilled with the area up there so we didn’t commit just then,” said Brandon. “On our way back down Hwy. 10, we took notice of Becker and we were well aware of it being a great community with great schools. So we checked things out.”

Brandon said when he returned home he googled office space for rent in Becker and eventually met with a realtor who guided him to the once-thriving GRSS clinic next to the post office.

“We loved the place, so we signed the lease, began tearing down walls and began remodeling last January,” he said. “The location is ideal because it just a short jaunt to Monticello and to St. Cloud.”

While Brandon was at Gustavus, he was a student/coach for the school’s gymnastics team. While studying exercise physiology, he learned to identify flaws in the athletes and worked with them to correct their situations whenever it was warranted.

After settling in Becker, he looked up Becker’s High School gymnastics coach (Jen Harmoning) and shot her an email to see if she was in need of an assistant.

“She told me the timing was perfect so she included Buesgens in some summer camps with the gymnasts and now he can be seen actively helping the athletes at home meets and on the road — time permitting.

“I stumbled upon gymnastics in college when, at a practice, I was asked to move some of the mats as the girls performed,” Brandon said. From there I started assisting and even got more experience at Hopkins High School when we lived in the area.”

The Buesgens say they are building their practice on prevention and helping people enhance their health.

“We treat people, not necessarily the condition,” Brandon said.

His facility in Becker not only has tables for adjusting patients and “back-cracking”, but he has a room where he holds daily and weekly exercises and another room that has a projector and a screen where he can hold seminars and better inform his patients.

Brandon says he teaches nutrition, fitness, whole health and identifies cancer killers for patients of any age. He and his wife also treat scoliosis — the lateral curvature of the spine. They are so sure of their treatment they provide before and after x-rays for patients to visually see their improvement.

“If we put a plan in place to change something, we follow through,” said Buesgens. “We are the doctors leading the patients to a better place, but the ultimate choice comes down to what the patient wants to endure.”

The Buesgens get patients through doctor referrals but at times also get walk-ins. Brandon says, “whatever the condition is — if we can’t be the solution, I can usually find someone who is.”

Brandon says he gets a lot of customers who are children and infants, too.

“Do you know how traumatic it is for a baby to get birthed?” asked Brandon. “It’s an ordeal that could affect one’s bones at delivery. We work on youngsters early so the trauma they incur doesn’t have long-term effects.”

Brandon has worked with primary and middle-schoolers who have issues with bed-wetting, ADHD and other sensory disorders.

Brandon and Toni have already held several seminars in Becker and the surrounding communities where they talk about healthy food choices and how to stay healthy during the cold and flu season. The community event is scheduled for

Jan. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pebble Creek Golf Course. A free meal is served but those interested must RSVP to Dr. Buesgens so he can accurately plan the menu.

The Buesgens plan to hold these community dinners on a monthly basis for the time being.

The Buesgens also have a workout event called, MaxT3,  and it is on the calendar for Jan. 21 from 8-8:15 a.m. at their office. Buesgens will show guests how shorter, more frequent workouts are actually more effective to achieve weight loss and good health. Again, space is limited and interested parties are asked to contact Becker Spine to reserve a spot.

“Our mission here in Becker isn’t just to treat each patient one-on-one-on-one,” Brandon said. “We are here to treat families and kids.

The Buesgens have two children, Addi (15 months) and Maci (four months).
