Regional Teacher of the Year award winners were recognized Nov. 2 at the St. Cloud Convention Center.  Recipients received their awards and were provided entertainment at the event.

Teacher of the Year Awards were presented to four excellent individuals that have met the criteria and set the bar for educational excellence at Becker Public Schools. Becker’s Teachers of the Year are Joan Jacobson (Primary School), Carla Johnson (Intermediate School), Jason Baune (Middle School), and Miriah Giles (High School).

The role of a teacher is one that is undeniably crucial in so many ways and to so many people. It could also be argued that their importance can be easily overlooked or missed unintentionally. A teacher is an individual that not only has to show mastery of his or her chosen subject, but who also must possess the skill set and ability to be able to effectively pass that knowledge on to others. It is that ability that sets them apart from so many others and it is an ability that often is intrinsic and not taught.

At Becker Public Schools, they strive to provide the best possible learning environment for their students, and it is fully understood that Becker teachers are the cornerstone of that environment, which is why they take great pride in extending awards to those teachers that help set the bar for others to follow and reach year after year.

Becker Public Schools partners with Resource Training & Solutions to create a selection procedure for educational excellence awards based on several suggested criteria. These awards are not given out to individuals without careful consideration and discussion.

To be honored with this award, an individual must serve as an example to inspire fellow colleagues, students, and their communities through positive leadership and attitude toward the educational field. He or she must demonstrate thorough knowledge of subject matter and leadership in curriculum development, be a positive role model for students and other staff and recognize students as individuals so that they may motivate them to reach their maximum potential by showing genuine respect and concern.

These individuals also continue to seek out opportunities for continuing education to improve personal and instructional effectiveness, knowing that their education certainly doesn’t stop after formal education is completed, but that it is a lifelong journey and process.

The school press release is quoted as saying:

“On behalf of Becker Public Schools, thank you for your continuous contributions and for helping to create an amazing learning environment for our students. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we look forward to seeing what each of you accomplishes in the future!”
