“The Becker PTSA board members have met to carefully analyze the details of the upcoming referendum and we, as a PTSA, support it,” PTSA President Ann Olson said last week.
The PTSA met in June and after further discussions, the organization decided to formally support the referendum. The minutes from the June meeting are available on the PTSA website, Olson said, and she also stated that the PTSA “strives to ensure that our families and community members are informed and that they receive answers to their questions to make an informed decision this fall.”
The district will be releasing more information on the referendum shortly, Olson said, and two public informationmeetings scheduled, the first on Tues. Oct. 20 and a second session on Thurs. Oct. 29, both at 6 p.m. at Becker High School.
The PTSA meeting Mon., Oct. 19 at 6:30 pm in the Becker Primary school will be another opportunity for residents to ask questions about the referendum, Olson said.
The “Levy for Learning” questions are as follows: Question One would maintain our current student programs for a period of 10 years, assuming that existing funding sources stay in place. Passage of Question One would also avoid a budget reduction of approximately $300,000 next spring. Question Two would bring back $150,000 of programs that have been reduced, and Question Three could provide facility maintenance and upgrades including roof replacements, new intermediate/Primary school and Middle School parking lots, Primary and Middle School heat pumps and a multi-purpose turf field for soccer, lacrosse, physical education and football.
Anyone interested in working on the “VOTE YES” campaign along with other referendum supporters can participate in a number of ways, Olson said. Dates are being set up for phone calling and door knocking from now until election day Tue., Nov. 2. The link to sign up is: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4cacae22abff2-vote.
