Warm red and pink translucent fabric, along with golden crowns and doors and a likeness of the Statue of Liberty were all part of the New York atmosphere for the Romantic Nights & City Lights Grand March for Prom 2016 at Becker High School Saturday afternoon. 

 

Trees, street signs and hanging strings of light guided the prom attendees through a darkened room to platforms where — after being introduced by Vice Principal Mark Kolbinger — the couples posed for photos from the crowd on all sides of the gym before heading through a door, arm-in-arm.

 

Creative use of construction paper, mini-lights, sheer fabric and a series of fountains and street lamps, the elegant couples made their slow progress along the walkway as cameras flashed from bleacher seats filled with family and friends. The Grand March was scheduled to start at 3 p.m., yet excited parents, friends and family members packed into the gymnasium starting around 2 p.m. The gym was at full capacity, seat-wise by 2:30 and the late-comers were forced to stand along the walls and find seats on the floor to enjoy the hour-long festivity.

 

Afterwards, the students and family gathered in the commons area to chat, take photographs and plan the rest of the day. Many students and parents departed for local parks and other venues to have group and individual photos taken in an outdoor setting prior to the dance later that evening at Pebble Creek Golf Course.

 

This year’s royalty was Morgan Kramer and Erika Schwartz.
