Becker Drama Club to perform Beauty and the Beast

Students of the Becker Drama Club are working hard on their upcoming production, Beauty and the Beast. Students have been working to make the production a success since August.

The club is back in full swing after facing hiccups during the pandemic, when performances were moved outdoors for the year of 2020. This year, over 70 students auditioned for the play, according to student actor Hunter Graftaas (Lumiere).

“It was the first time in a long time we had to cut people,” Chris Diaz (Gaston) said. He noted that, while it was disappointing to have to cut anyone, he knew that there would be a lot of underclassmen excited to carry the drama club in future years.

The drama club students reported that this is not a show to miss.

Jada Soltau (Belle) said the show would inspire nostalgia in anyone who loved the classic Disney movie. “It has the ability to reach so many families, I think it’s the perfect show for the Becker demographic.”

Maddy MaKarrall (Babette) noted that the talented tech crew had created an incredibly beautiful set to backdrop the show, and Soltau agreed that the set looked as if it came straight out of a fairytale.

The students felt that the production was coming along very well with the help of their teachers, Gretchen Bordson and Greg Lynch, as well as the assistance of the new director, Michael Ricce.

Bryce Berger (Beast) said that the director has put so much time and energy into helping each student to do their best, making sure everyone got one-on-one direction to help them act to their full potential.

In all, this is a production that local residents will not want to miss. Performances will take place November 18-20 as listed: Friday, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 19, 2 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 19, 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 20, 2 p.m. Tickets are available to purchase online at Becker.HomeTownTicketing.com/embed/all.
