Becker City set for 2025 budget talks

Becker Mayor Tracy Bertram and the other four council members were present for the July 16 meeting of the Becker City Council.  There were few items on the agenda as the council prepared for the Executive session that followed where the 2025 budget would be the focus of discussion.  A second budget discussion is scheduled for July 24. 

Becker Freedom Days

Council accepted donations in the form of cash, goods or services from area businesses in support of Becker Freedom Days.  Among the biggest donors were the Becker Lions, who donated $6,000, Becker Township, $5,500, and Sherburne State Bank, $3,000.   The Becker Lions also donated $2,000 toward Becker Freedom Days fireworks.  Nine businesses donated $1,000 – Advantage Mechanical, Bill’s Family Foods, Bill’s Superette, Elk River Technologies, EMR-Northern Metals, G-Will Liquors, Hubbard Electric, LPI, and TJ Potter Trucking.  Connexus Energy and Vonco made $600 donations and six other businesses donated $500 – Charlie’s Sports Bar and Grill, Cornerstone Concrete, Dueling Brews, Mid-Sota Mosquito and Tick, MN Rusco, and Motorsota.  16 businesses donated $250 or less. 

A resolution was passed in the consent agenda stated that “the City Council of Becker gives its thanks and appreciation for the donations to the Donors list.” 

Roof Replacement

The low bid from All Elements Inc. of Monticello was accepted for the roof replacement of the Press Building at the Waste Water Treatment Facility.  All Elements Inc. will replace the roof for the quoted price of $74,662 and not to exceed $82,200.

Park and Rec Updates

Robin Dingmann gave updates on a number of projects.  The Skatepark at Kolbinger Park will begin work during the week of July 22 and should be completed by the end of July.  New play equipment at Kolbinger Park will be installed around the second week of August.  Work has also begun at the Becker Athletic Complex.
