Becker City Council’s Light Agenda Features Thank You’s To Donors

In a very light Becker City Council meeting Wednesday (due to Night to Unite), the council acknowledged service anniversaries, approved emergency election judges and constituted a reimbursement agreement with the USDA.

Election Judges
During the course of training for the upcoming primaries and election, Clerk Julie Blesi received word that two of Becker’s election judges indicated they no longer wished to serve as judges. Blesi said the City of Becker has two residents from Becker Township in Lonny Seeley and Brad Novak who have indicated their willingness to step in as election judges for the city.

The Becker Twp. Clerk (Lucinda Messman) registered them for election judge training with Sherburne County, which they have completed.

Council did appoint alternate judges earlier, however one will be running for a school board seat, eliminating them from being an election judge.

The other is a City of Becker employee and Blesi said it is more cost effective to have residents fill these positions if available and willing.

As in other years there will be a total of 12 judges assisting during the elections.

Reimbursement Agreement
The council gave staff direction to apply for a grant to fund a bio fuels feasibility study back in March. In June, the city was contacted by the US Department of Agriculture that they will be receiving the grant.

With the Becker city council's acceptance of the USDA's grant request on June 21, the next step is to get a reimbursement agreement in place with the partners on the project including Wenck Associates, Full Circle Organics and Vonco II to reimburse the city once the feasibility study is complete.

Council reviewed the agreement and voted in favor of the resolution.

Consent Agenda
Council voted to approve the consent agenda which included a hiring and termination report for the BCC, a partial pay request to Gridor Construction in the amount of $286,096.30 and a partial pay request to Hardrives, Inc. in the amount of $179,228.06.

The consent agenda also included a resolution accepting donations for last weekend’s Community Concert at the Creek. Those donations included: Plunkett's Pest Control ($500), Motorsota ($250), SMA ($500), Becker Chamber of Commerce ($500), Ace Solid Waste, Inc. ($500), Becker Furniture World ($500), T.J.
