During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Becker City Council designated the Becker Community Center (BCC) as the new polling location for 2024 and beyond. In a statement made to this reporter after the meeting, Mayor Tracy Bertram explained that the growing city needed more space during elections, and so they decided to change the polling location from city hall to the gym at the BCC for the foreseeable future.
Open Forum
Nicole Smooty spoke during open forum. Smooty is the new Economic Developer for the city. She introduced herself to the council, and the council members expressed their excitement to work with her.
Delinquent Bills Property Assessment
The council assessed delinquent utility bills and weed/grass removal bills to the property taxes of the properties afflicted. Only charges over $50 were assessed. Two public hearings were held for any property owners wishing to plead their case as to why these bills should not be assessed to their property taxes, but no one spoke.
Property owners will be given a couple of weeks still to pay the delinquent bills before the county assesses the bills to their property taxes.
Pebble Creek Water Feature
Council approved spending $40,000 to repair the water feature at Pebble Creek, which has become very weathered. The water feature in question is the namesake Pebble Creek. Weather and water flow have degraded the creek.
The restoration project will include removing and replacing the liner in the creek, moving existing boulders to create walls along the creek, and installing an adjustable flow gate.
In Other Business, the Council:
• Heard committee reports;
• Designated the Becker Community Center as the polling location for the city for 2024;
