The weather cooperated perfectly on the first day of classes at many area schools on Tuesday, with bright sunshine lighting the way to the first day of school for the new year.
The day was “Freshmen-Only” at Becker High School again this year, with a day-long program of special events designed to make new incoming students comfortable with their new building and new teachers. Activities included an abbreviated class schedule for the day to allow for an all-class meeting, a picnic lunch and an activity fair.
National Honor Society members and other senior class leaders joined with teachers in guiding the new ninth-graders on tours of the facility, allowing them to get their bearings in the new space and to get any questions answered before the full student body reported for classes on Wednesday.
Becker Middle School received their full complement of students Tuesday, with a series of meetings and events held to celebrate the start of the new term as well. Principal Nancy Helmer and Asst. Principal Chantel Boyer greeted students and staff at the door as they left the building, asking after their first day experiences and helping students locate the correct bus for the ride home.
Clearview Elementary School in Clear Lake was the usual hive of activity as students scrambled to catch up with friends they have not seen all summer, as well as adjusting to their new teachers and classrooms to start the new term.
And, on Thursday…
Becker Intermediate and Primary School students reported for their first day of classes in the rain on Thursday morning, as those schools have parent-teacher conferences on the first two days of the week. The weather did nothing to diminish their enthusiasm, however, with students rushing off of their busses and into their respective schools, anxious to meet friends and start the school year. Principals Dr. Christine Glomski and Dale Christensen were outside, welcoming students with the traditional “high-fives” as they arrived to start their new school year.
