THIS YOUNG BLACK BEAR was photographed earlier this week outside the home of Cinda and Jaiden Foley of Becker. The bear had apparently tore down the Foley’s bird feeder near their patio in their backyard. It was also reported that momma bear was nearby in the woods.

Bear Encounters Becoming More Frequent Lately

Reports of bears roaming the backyards of Becker residents continues to flourish as a “baby” bear was photographed near the patio of Cinda and Jaiden Foley’s backyard earlier this week.

Just last week, Kristin Martin of Becker Twp. submitted a photo of a black bear (maybe the same one?) just outside her patio door peering inside their home. The Martins live south of Co. Rd. 4 near Tallokson’s Tree Farm and Kristin said she “woke up to take her morning walk, I spotted a bear coming across my yard.”

Martin said the bear checked out her apple tree and a bird feeder and then made itself up to her patio door for a quick peek inside.

The Foley’s bear appears to have torn down a bird feeder they had posted at the edge of their patio. Apparently the bear photographed was the baby and the momma bear was nearby in the woods.

Others on Facebook have commented they have seen bears numerous times along Co. Rd. 48 as well as in backyards of Foley and Orrock.

People are encouraged to stay away from the bears and if you don’t want their presence, to remove ones bird feeders and store them in the garage. Also, be mindful of little ones and pets.

The National Park Service says bear behavior can be unpredictable at times and although rare, attacks on humans have occurred, inflicting serious injuries and death. most bears are only interested in protecting food, cubs, or their space.

Most bears will avoid humans if they hear them coming. Pay attention to one’s surroundings and make a special effort to be noticeable if one is in an area with known bear activity or a good food source, such as berry bushes and bird feeders.
