The Becker Education Association held its 14th annual community benefit last Friday and through the efforts of its membership, was able to raise over $4,000 for the family of Becker graduate ReNita Henderson, as she recovers from her battle with breast cancer.
While the BEA’s event is usually held in March and draws large crowds, this year’s restrictions forced the membership to call an audible and host a virtual fundraiser. Nearly 100 school staff participated in the online event.
“We are appreciative of the school administrators, as well as the many other school staff who helped us with this year’s benefit,” said long time benefit committee member Jason Baune.
“It’s always a great event and this year it was especially meaningful since ReNita’s parents both are employees of the district.”
Over the past 14 events, the BEA has raised over $125,000 for families within the Becker School district who are facing hardship. Friday’s auction was the second fundraiser held this fall by the BEA, as members collected and donated over $1,000 to the Becker food shelf in November.
