(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by BASC).
April, 2021 marks the reopening of BASC in the new Senior Center at the Becker Community Center, Room 209.
The Senior Center will be open Monday through Friday from early morning until 5 p.m. Sign-in will be with BCC front desk staff as early as 5 a.m. There will be some Covid restrictions in place since BCC is a public (city) building. Masks are to be worn and social distance spacing with participation limited to 10 persons in the Senior Center space at a time at first.
With the many hours now available, seniors will be able to gather together at various times throughout the weekdays. Restrictions will ease as conditions allow. Coffee and water will be available – snacks and lunches will come later, hopefully by May. A heads up to seniors that the monthly third Tuesday lunch and music will be at City Park for the warmer months starting May 18. Watch the May calendar for details.
• Tuesday, April 6th , 10 a.m. at the Becker City Park building, Jeremy Schmidt, Becker School District Superintendent, will meet with area senior residents as the first BASC activity scheduled. Schmidt will update senior residents on the May 11 Becker Schools Referendum. The large indoor space will allow for more than 10 people to maintain social distancing to come and hear Schmidt. Masks will be required.
• April 8th is BASC’s first “soft” opening day and, just as the other April Tuesdays and Thursdays, lists the activity, “Coffee and Conversation.” The seniors have 13 months of catching up with friends to do!
• Friday, April 16, there will be “Lunch on the Run”. Meeting at the Brickyard in Clear Lake at 11:30 a.m.
Activity information is available at the Senior Center and published in the Patriot Newspaper in the BASC column.
