Audience Gobbles Up First Graders Thanksgiving Concert

Becker first graders held their first concert of the school year Thursday and Friday to the theme of Thanksgiving.

“Fallin’ Into Fall” was the musical production directed by Music Teachers Erika Bakke and Ruthanne Eldred.

Half the first graders entered the gymnasium from the back, donning paper-plate turkeys on top of their heads. As they gathered on the stage, the youngsters craned their necks to find their parents and grandparents and give them a little wave.

Moments later, the other half of first graders entered the gym through an adjoining room wearing Pilgrim bonnets and hats. They too, gazed into the sea of people in the audience and gave a wave to their faithful family members.

The first number was the musical’s namesake, Fallin’ Into Fall written by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson.

The five-to-seven-year-old adolescents then sang the tune, Things I’m Thankful For, by Hap Palmer.

In between numbers, some of the chosen juveniles recited the story of the first Thanksgiving.

The next three songs, I Like To Eat, Turkey Twist and Santa, You Showed Up Too Soon! were Jacobson numbers that put giant smiles on the listeners and viewers.

The show concluded with another number by Jacobson and Emerson titled, We Are Marching, and the crowd enthusiastically applauded the youthful pilgrims and turkeys as they concluded their show.
