Troops of the local Girl Scouts organization held their annual troop celebration ceremony in May and announced earners of certain awards for the 2017 season.
Bronze Award
The highest award for girls in grades four and five is the Bronze Award. The scouts are expected to pick a community project and work the project for a minimum of 20 hours.
Troop 292 was led by Adrienne Owens and Troop 780 was led by Dawn Drayna, who each earned the Bronze Award.
Silver Award
Silver is the highest award for girls in grades six to eighth grade. The scouts must pick a community project and work the project for a minimum of 50 hours with the scout showing leadership skills within the project.
Three troops earned this award including Troop 259, led by Lisa Wenner; Troop 334 led by Diane Christensen and Troop 582 led by Jean Schmidt.
Gold Award
Gold is the highest and hardest award to achieve with the scout expected to pick a sustainable project and put in a minimum of 80 hours with a final interview at the end of the project.
Becker’s Morgan Meyer earned this award earlier this month. She created a power point presentation to present in front of the Girl Scout council members and also had to submit a time log of her nearly 90 hours of work toward her project. She also wrote a final report identifying how she’s helped improve her community, what she’s done to make a difference, how her project will be sustained and what she’s learned throughout this project.
Badges
Girls in grades one, three, fifth, eighth and 10th grades bridge from their respective ranks to the next level and all have earned badges throughout the year.
Most of the girls earn these badges themselves learning leadership, planning and time management skills.
