A number of activities are planned as area schools prepare for the start of the new school year in the coming weeks.  Open house days and new student orientations are scheduled for Becker High School and Becker Middle School in early September, while Clearview Elementary School in Clear Lake is getting ready for their open house next week.

 

Clearview Elementary School:  A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the massive new construction and renovation project there will be held at 7:15 a.m. Mon., Aug. 24, according to Principal Sheri Rutar.  The project has involved major remodeling of existing classrooms, additional classroom space and a new gymnasium.  The annual open house at Clearview will be a bit different this year in that it will take place outdoors Tue., Aug. 25 from 4:40 to 6 p.m., unless inclement weather forces a move into the gymnasium on the day.  Regular classes at Clearview will begin Mon., Aug. 31.

 

Becker High School:  The annual BHS Open House will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tue., Sept. 2, and will include a meeting for freshman students and their parents in the auditorium at 5 p.m.  The event will also include the dedication of the new Wellness Center at the school, according to Asst. Principal Mark Kolbinger.  Classes for freshmen will begin Tue., Sept. 8, with students in grades 10-12 reporting for classes Wed., Sept. 9.

 

Becker Middle School:  New Orientation Day for eighth-grade students at Becker Middle School will be held on Tues., Sept. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Principal Nancy Helmer Weiss advises students and parents to schedule “about 90 minutes” for the orientation process, which will include a tour of the building, introductions to teachers, school photo and other “housekeeping” details to prepare for the new school year.  Registration for eighth-grade orientation is on-line at the Middle School web site.  Students in grades six through eight will report for regular classes Wed., Sept. 9.

 

The open house and conferences for students in grades six and seven will also take place on Tue., Sept. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Becker Middle School.  Pre-scheduled conferences will take place during that time period, and student ill have their school picture taken, finalize iPad registrations, bring in school supplies and receive locker assignments.

 

Becker Primary/Intermediate Schools:  Parents and student will attend pre-scheduled conferences at their respective schools on Tues., Sept. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wed., Sept. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 5p.m. at the Primary School and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Intermediate School.

 

The Becker Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual “New Teacher Welcome” luncheon in the BHS cafeteria at noon Wed., Aug. 26.
